For many college students, 2020 was their first time voting in a presidential election. Due to the pandemic and other factors, many students had different experiences when it came to voting this election cycle.
After a USC student committed a homicide within walking distance of campus, USCPD considered him to be “armed and dangerous" yet did not send out a Carolina Alert because those are not required in situations that have “already occurred, and that we don't believe is currently a risk,” according to university spokesperson Jeff Stensland. An attorney said he believes the university might have violated the U.S. Department of Education's Clery Act in doing so.
There have been almost 1,000 student violations of university COVID-19 regulations since the start of the semester. Students have received interim and delayed suspensions, housing removals and educational sanctions.
