Gas line explosion injures several in Alabama

Colonial Pipeline shut down its major pipeline in Alabama after at least seven workers were injured in a gas line explosion on Monday in a remote area southwest of Birmingham, ABC News reports. According to Gov. Robert Bently, this occurred only about a mile west on the same pipeline that blew up last month and led to gas shortages throughout the South. More than 30 acres of wooded area were left on fire by the incident in Shelby County, AL.com reports.

Absentee voting expected to increase from 2012

More than 236,000 people have voted absentee in South Carolina, WIS reports. The deadline to vote by mail is Friday, Nov. 4., and the deadline to vote in person is Monday, Nov. 7.  According to the director of the State Election Commission, Chris Whitmire, about 500,000 absentee votes could be cast, which is up from the 400,000 in the last presidential election.

Former S.C. U.S. attorney signs letter criticizing FBI for recent investigation of Clinton emails

Former U.S. attorney of South Carolina rebuked FBI director James Comey after the release of a letter on the standing of the investigation of Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, WIS reports. Bill Nettles signed the letter, which mainly criticizes the director's comments on pending investigations, along with other former high-ranking officials from the U.S. Department of Justice. Comey released details about the investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner's alleged sexual conversations with a minor and made statements regarding the possibility of the discovered emails being relevant to the investigation of Clinton's use of a private email server.
