Lack of Carolina Alert after October homicide 'troubling' to lawyers
By Kailey Cota | Nov. 9, 2020After a USC student committed a homicide within walking distance of campus, USCPD considered him to be “armed and dangerous" yet did not send out a Carolina Alert because those are not required in situations that have “already occurred, and that we don't believe is currently a risk,” according to university spokesperson Jeff Stensland. An attorney said he believes the university might have violated the U.S. Department of Education's Clery Act in doing so.
