Prisoners charged in connection with drug ring

Fifteen people were indicted for their roles in a drug trafficking conspiracy operating from inside several state prisons, The State reports. According to a news release from acting U.S. Attorney Beth Drake, seven inmates and eight others were involved in the drug ring. The prisoners facilitated both delivery and distribution of methamphetamine from California to Upstate South Carolina.

Richland County gas leak leads to evacuations

A gas leak caused evacuations in the Denny Road area of Richland County Friday, WIS reports. According to SCE&G officials, construction work hit a gas line as well as a Columbia water line causing the gas leak. The leak was turned off after two hours and no one was injured.

Sumter men arrested through undercover operation

An undercover operation within the Sumter County Sheriff's Department has led to the arrest of two men for illegal drug activity, WIS reports. According to investigators, they seized 200 grams of marijuana worth $4,000, oxycodone worth $200, as well as a pistol and $1,887 in cash.
