Student senate recognizes executive leaders, passes other legislation in last 115th senate session

USC's student senate session on Wednesday witnessed the passage of 13 significant legislative measures, accompanied by the failure to approve two proposed initiatives. A few of the bills passed recognized the Student Government executive leaders for their contributions while others look at improving the University 101 curriculum, establishing a "Cancer Prevention Week" and collaborating with Greek Life organizations.

The student senate passed three new pieces of legislation and referred three others to various committees at its weekly meeting on Wednesday. One piece of legislation is a recommendation that University of South Carolina Athletics and the football program organize a "white out" themed game for the upcoming football season.

Humanities Collaborative supports interdisciplinary research, collaboration at USC

The Humanities Collaborative is finding new ways to encourage interdisciplinary research and support the humanities at USC. Last semester, the collaborative was awarded a Mellon grant to sponsor research and support the university's founding documents requirement. President Amiridis said that, despite budget cuts faced at other institutions, USC will remain committed to its liberal arts.

Innovation hub to advance work in energy distribution with federal recognition

South Carolina's Nexus for Advanced Resilient Energy was recognized as an innovation hub in October, giving it an opportunity to recieve more funding from the federal government. The entity works in creating more effecient ways to store and distribute energy. The hope is that through phase two of its application process, it will be able to recieve money that can help SC Nexus explore new projects.

One piece of legislation, which aims to enhance environmental sustainability and accountability in laboratories across campus, merged three bills into one in an omnibus vote.

Technical college transfer students guaranteed credit for core classes at USC, Clemson

The University of South Carolina, alongside Clemson University, entered a credit-transfer agreement with the SC Technical College System in January. The agreement guarantees that 30 core credit hours will be granted to students who have transferred over from one of the 16 technical colleges in the state.
